NCMT is proud to offer its own equine care curriculum taught daily by NCMT staff and captains of the barn day shift.  Troopers are exposed to age-appropriate material as it relates to barn management, horse care, nutrition, and veterinary issues that accompany our equine fleet.  Barn Day attendance is an important component of the overall Riding and Horsemanship Program.  First, the children learn that the horses and ponies depend on them to feed, water and provide care, rain or shine, in sickness and in health, which is where the seeds of responsibility and a sense of duty are first planted in our cadets.  Second, daily lessons provide the students an opportunity to interact in a classroom-like setting, ask questions, and receive detailed explanations and enrichment material that further enhance the education.  Before each Review Ceremony, held in December and June, cadets take an Equine Care test, and the highest scoring cadet in each rank receives an Equine Care High Point Horsemanship Award at the ceremony.  This award is an honor of distinction, as it demonstrates the cadets’ commitment to learning, as well as attendance.  Below are links to the curriculum.
