Summer Barn Days

Horse Share Program

Note: you might need to scroll down the page to select which weeks you’re registering for.

SUMMER CAMP DETAILS

Open to new riders through advanced beginners, children ages 7–12. Instruction will focus on independent walk and trot work and introductory canter skills as appropriate. Camp includes a daily 45-minute group riding lesson, equine care instruction, and crafts, games, and activities in and around the barn.

SUMMER BARN DAYS DETAILS

Open to all children in the community ages 7 through rising seniors; includes 3 hours of fun with friends (human and equine) around NCMT!!! Available as a stand-alone program or as an extended-day option for students enrolled in Summer Camp.

Activities include:

Equine-related learning
Hands-on grooming and bathing
Feeding and daily care routines
Other essential horse care and horsemanship topics

HORSE SHARE PROGRAM DETAILS

This program offers our more seasoned riders the opportunity to further develop their skills while enjoying a 1:1 relationship with a special member (or two) of our equine herd.

To participate in the Summer Horse Share, riders must be able to walk, trot, and canter independently in a group setting, and adjust their own stirrups and girths with little to no assistance.

If you are unsure whether your rider qualifies or if you are not currently an NCMT member, please contact Hannah Jones at hannah.jones@newcanaanmountedtroop.org before completing the registration form.

Once registered, families will be contacted to discuss appropriate horse options. Final horse assignments will be determined by NCMT. Our instructors will work collaboratively to match each rider with the best possible horse based on the rider’s current ability and the horse’s weekly schedule.

Summer lesson times will be assigned after horse-and-rider pairs are confirmed. Lessons will run Monday–Thursday from 7:30–9:30 a.m., with additional lesson times available on Saturdays and Sundays beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Is Student 1 an active member of NCMT?*
